[Sorry, I goofed during submission -- you'll have to 'full view' this to see the actual painting]
I wanted to convey the calm, smoky (incense & candles) atmosphere of the temple. You'll have to trust me that the full version is much better than the scaled-down version. There's at least 5 hours of details on the puppies that isn't showing up here.

No reference (mostly from memory, I have a few buddha statuettes at home and have seen my share of stray puppies...)
[Background]
The contrast here is the grand, golden Buddha and two tiny puppies - street dogs allowed to roam free at the temple.
The Buddha is in the 'Overcoming Evil' pose, which is also the name of this piece. In this case, the temple is a sanctuary, and the statue looks down upon a curious puppy whose life will be easier now that he (and his sibling) has found a place at the foot of heaven.
As always, I am in awe. There is such an amazing sense of calm, and protection here. The colors you've used are so warm and rich, and shows the worn but inviting atmosphere of the temple. Absolutely lovely. Would you be willing to upload a detail pic or two, so we can see the puppies and any other hidden treasures?
